At Perry Farm & Workshop, we believe the most powerful things we grow are the ones with roots - literally and generationally. Garlic offers both. It's resilient, flavorful, medicinal, and timeless. Growing it connects us to traditions that stretch across centuries, and lets us craft something beautiful, batch by batch.
We plant heirloom hardneck garlic in the fall, when the ground is just starting to cool. Tucked into raised beds with well-drained soil and compost from our own farm, the cloves rest through Maine's long winter. Come spring, they push up strong green shoots - resilient, hardy, and full of promise.
This year's planting will be ready for its first full harvest in Summer 2026. We're growing primarily for seed garlic, kitchen use, and small-batch product trials. Our long-term goal is to build out a preservation line of reliable heirloom strains that thrive in our climate and connect our customers to real, grounded food.
We're building our own garlic line - one we can pass down, season after season. Woodrow Winterneck is the name we've given to this future variety: a hardneck garlic selected year after year from the strongest, most flavorful bulbs grown right here in Maine soil.
It's not finished yet - it's in progress. But it reflects everything we care about: resilience, tradition, and food that means something.
We'll open pre-orders in late spring 2026 and begin fulfilling orders after the harvest is cured. If you'd like to get updates - or be among the first to know what we'll have available - join our interest list.
