Saffron is the most precious spice in the world - hand harvested, rich in flavor, and steeped in tradition. At Perry Farm, we saw the opportunity to grow something rare and remarkable right here in Maine. It's not just about profit. It's about patience, beauty, and craft.
We start with premium crocus sativus corms, planted in raised beds designed for drainage and easy harvest. Saffron needs well-drained soil, full sun, and careful tending - exactly the kind of thoughtful, small-scale care we give every part of this farm. Each flower blooms for just a few days. Inside are three crimson threads - delicate, fragrant, and labor-intensive for harvest. Each one is plucked by hand, dried with care, and stored for flavor and potency.
We're beginning with a modest planting of premium crocus sativus corms - enough to learn, refine our methods, and produce a beautiful first harvest. This initial year is all about quality, soil health, and building a system we can grow from. Every thread will be harvested by hand and dried here on the farm to preserve flavor, color, and potency.
In Fall 2025, we'll begin offering small-batch, Maine-grown saffron-available in limited quantities. As we grow, we're exploring saffron-infused products like honey, tea blends, and farm-crafted gift sets. Join our list to stay in the loop as these offerings take shape.
Our first harvest will be ready by November 2025, and quantities will be limited. If you're a home cook, small-batch maker, or chef looking for something rare - we'd love to share our hand-harvested saffron with you.
